Dining benches are a popular alternative to chairs, and are often used on one side of the table. Due to their low height in comparison to chairs with backs, they can create the illusion of more space whilst the table is not in use as the dining bench can be tucked away beneath. Dining benches also have a very homely, traditional country feel but don't necessarily have to be paired with a rustic style dining room or kitchen. Depending on the dining bench, they can couple quite nicely with a more modern table.
For those without a dedicated dining room, a kitchen bench can provide ample seating around your kitchen table or simply be placed against a wall as a seating solution if the kitchen is not used for dining.
Dining benches are a great solution for easily seating a number of people side-by-side along a large table, and are perfect for families with children as they can sit more children without needing one adult-sized chair per small child. For older guests or family members the lack of back support may be uncomfortable, which is why typically you would have the dining chairs on one side and a bench on the other - even if only for occasional use.
